Trailer Wednesday: Kung Fu Panda 2, Bad Teacher

So the return of Trailer Wednesday last month turned out to not exactly be the permanent return, but things should be changing around as more summer movie look to dive in to full-on promotion. With just two and a half months until “Kung Fu Panda 2,” the first full-length trailer has finally arrived and June comedy “Bad Teacher” starring a surprisingly crude and foul-mouthed Cameron Diaz releases an amusing red-band trailer.

Unfortunately, I seem to have misplaced by embed button, so the trailers are links now.

Kung Fu Panda 2

If your pants weren’t charmed off by the lazy panda Po and his drive to meet the expectations of his prescribed destiny as “dragon warrior,” you should see your doctor and ask him about your “soul.” Okay, maybe the film wasn’t for everyone, but DreamWorks’ 2008 hit impressed many with its combination of lovable antics, high-flying action and hearty servings of, well, heart.

The second version, called “Kung Fu Panda 2” after the studio flirted briefly with “Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom,” continues Po’s adventures with his butt-kicking friends, the Furious Five. Together, they must stop the evil Lord Shen (Gary Oldman) from using what appears to be “pyrotechnics” to wipe kung fu and all its masters off the planet.

The trailer has a few spot-on jokes that continue to take advantage of the clash of Eastern philosophy and seriousness with Western shenanigans, such as “beware the signs.” The film comes out May 26, so if you are a big boy or girl, you’ll have to choose between that and “The Hangover: Part II.” Good news is they both come out on a Thursday to give you time for both.

Bad Teacher

Could Cameron Diaz make a reputation comeback? She’s never been raunchier or anything-ier than she is in this trailer. Maybe the f-bomb is a bit gratuitous and it’s a bit forced, but she seems to pull it off … and well.

Diaz stars as Elizabeth, someone completely unsuitable to be teaching kids. She comes to class hung over, smokes up in the parking lot and swears freely in class. When a new sub comes to the school (Justin Timberlake), she decides she needs someone to take care of her and he has the wealth to satisfy her needs. Problem is, she’s convinced she’d need a boob job to get his attention. To get it she’ll need money and the school is offering a bonus to the teacher whose students get the best scores on the statewide standardized test.

All the while, she shuns the advances of the school’s gym teacher (Jason Segel) and must fend off a rival for both the bonus and the new guy’s affections (Lucy Punch). See Cameron be bad on June 24.
