“Grit” nearly guns down “Fockers” to open 2011
Without any new films at the movies this weekend yet a full three-day holiday for most folks, most movies saw great Christmas follow-up numbers this weekend. “Little Fockers” led the way for the second straight week, but only by just a million or so over “True Grit,” which continues to impress considering the genre.

- True Grit – $24.4 M … $86.6 M
- Tron: Legacy – $18.7 M -… $131.3 M
- Yogi Bear – $12.3 M … $35.8 M
- The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – $10.2 M … $62.6 M
- The Fighter – $10 M … $46.3 M
- Tangled – $9.8 M … $167.8 M
- Gulliver’s Travels – $9.3 M … $27.4 M
- Black Swan – $8.8 M … $47.8 M
- The King’s Speech – $7.7 M … $22.9 M
The award-competing dramas really saw a boost in totals after this week. Both “The Fighter” and “Black Swan” have earned more than $45 million. “The King’s Speech” also saw the highest per-theater average and a 73 percent gain from last weekend.
The box office was up 12.5 percent from last week.
