Big gains for “Wall Street”
Money never sleeps, but owls do, only it’s during the day. What I mean by that is, Zack Snyder’s animated film “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” finished modestly (to be nice) and the sequel to “Wall Street” took first at the box office this weekend.
- Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps – $19 M (weekend) … $19 M (gross)
- Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole – $16.1 M … $16.1 M
- The Town – $15.6 M … $48.6 M
- Easy A – $10.6 M … $32.7 M
- You Again – $8.4 M … $8.4 M
- Devil – $6.6 M … $21.8 M
- Resident Evil: Afterlife – $4.9 M … $52 M
- Alpha and Omega – $4.7 M … $15.1 M
- Takers – $1.6 M … $54.8 M
- Inception – $1.2 M … $287 M
Newcomer rom-com “You Again” finished standard for the genre this time of year, good enough for fifth and “The Virginity Hit,” a teen comedy that opened in 700 theaters made only $300,000.
Excellent word of mouth for “The Town” and “Easy A” resulted in minimal decreases for both films. These good returns allowed the box office to still go up 4 percent overall from last week.
