“Beastly” gets pushed to Spring 2011

Beastly Movie

I wouldn’t normally ever report news on a movie such as contemporary teen romance fairytale “Beastly,” but my Summer Movie Preview has mention of “Beastly” coming out at the end of July, so as an amendment to that post, I felt inclined to mention that CBS Films is shelving the film until 2011.

The movie will instead arrive on March 18, 2011 opposite Bradley Cooper thriller “The Dark Fields” and the animated film “Rango” with Johnny Depp and “Pirates” director Gore Verbinski. Oddly enough, the reason for the change is suspected to be the fact that Universal moved the drama “Charlie St. Cloud” from the fall to that same weekend. Not normally a competitor, but when “Beastly” star Vanessa Hudgens’ former “High School Musical” co-star Zac Efron is the lead in “St. Cloud,” it kinda changes things.

“Beastly” will also no longer be in the shadow of  “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” which should be helpful to some extent. The only romance coming out around that time is a remake of “Jane Eyre” from Focus Features which is independent and could still be moved before then.
