The 2011 movie slate is about to commence and while a delayed Nic Cage film doesn’t exactly trumpet in the new year, I’m highly optimistic for 2011, especially from a blockbuster standpoint. Things start to pick up for the winter this week with another family adventure film sequel and a seductive-looking thriller starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. Although no film has been hyped more than usual, it should be enough to kickstart the box office heading into the bigger releases of the next couple weeks.

It’s that time of the year again. We’re in the horror-dominated block of the fall season and things are kicking off with a sequel to last year’s sneak-attack low-budget hit, “Paranormal Activity.” Oddly, it will be coupled with Clint Eastwood’s supernatural drama “Hereafter.”

Finally we have some interesting October offerings. The “Jackass” franchise returns with a third and three-dimensional installment and a bunch of our favorite actors above the age of 55 team up for an action comedy. If you’re not a horror fan, this is about it as far as what’s to see in October.
