Trailer Wednesday: Horrible Bosses, The Adventures of Tintin

In terms of trailer release dates, today’s offerings demonstrate two extremes: launching a marketing campaign that begins about two months before your film comes out and issuing a teaser seven months in advance. Fortunately for both the R-rated comedy “Horrible Bosses” and animated action/adventure film “The Adventures of Tintin” look good upon first glance.

Horrible Bosses

“Horrible Bosses” will combine the best of blue-collar relateability with high-concept black comedy, in that three buddies whose bosses make their lives miserable conspire to simply off them rather than quit their jobs. Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis (“Hall Pass”) and Charlie Day (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) star as the friends while A-listers Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston play the bosses.

The trailer’s standout is Aniston, who dials up the raunchiness for her character — not something we’ve truly seen from her before. The pièce de résistance is Jamie Foxx as ex-con “Motherfucker” Jones, who consults the wannabe killers. With a strong concept at play and a star-studded cast, “Bosses” might not even need two months to be one of the bigger R-rated summer comedies.

The Adventures of Tintin

Last summer, I posted some first-look images of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson’s collaboration “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.” Some of you were undoubtedly as unfamiliar with Hergé and his beloved cartoon character Tintin as I was at the time, but were intrigued at the possibility here based on the minds that decided to invest such significant time into it.

Well, now you can see the motion-capture work in …  motion, in this teaser trailer. All I can say is while Robert Zemeckis and his films give mo-cap a bad rep, the work here makes it look like the future of high-stakes animation. “Tintin,” whose title appears to have dropped the colon for now, looks to combine espionage and gritty action with incredible adventure, which could be enough to earn it the universal appeal it seeks considering the global popularity of Tintin.
